Historical movies sporked

Where "sporked" means, appearently, "watched and commented by sarcastic historians pointing out errors and inconsistencies in a ROFL-like hilarious way". Examples so far include Troy, Gladiator, Braveheart, King Arthur, Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves, and The Sound of Music. (Also The Patriot and Elisabeth, but I didn't read those because I haven't seen the movies). Next one will be Stephen Herek's awful version of The Three Musketeers. I can't wait for reading it!

  • Hey! Stephen Herek's "The three musketeers" wasn't awful! Of course they will find a lot of incosistencies, but that doesn't mean the film is bad, and the same happens with "Robin Hood, prince of thieves". There are incosistencies in probably every historical/adventure film in movie history.
By the way, I remind you that Herek's "The three musketeers" was the first film you went to see alone, and you liked it...

  • 1) I didn't like it very much, though perhaps I didn't find it "awful" at that time. How old was I, 14?

    2) It is awful. Dumas' legendary tale is butchered and the pieces are put back together in an absurd way. The plot makes no logical or historical sense. The love story is utterly unconvincing and uninteresting. The film is full of cliches which are not even fun to see (as they are in, say, a James Bond film).

    3) Sure that there are historical mistakes in every film of that kind, and this site is dedicated mostly to criticize in a funny way those mistakes, not to an artistic criticism of the film (this is made clear when they reach King Arthur and they say that this was the first movie in their list they really didn't like, even though the "reviews" of the other ones are as sarcastic as this one). Historical inaccuracies are a separate thing from artistic failures, although many times they go together. In the case of The Three Musketeers, I think it is awful historically, awful as a version of Dumas' masterpiece, and quite bad -perhaps not 100% awful because it manages to be funny sometimes- in an artistic sense.
